Seventy Minutes at the Camerons

So, here I am, at the top of the mountain, seeking wisdom from the Dali Ariane, keeper of all blogging wisdom. We'll see how my humble seeking goes . . .




This photo, however, is not of my delightful evening learning at the feet of the wise Ariane. Instead, it is the only photo I had on my computer of my blog-guru-mistress (that just sounds so wrong, but it is the feminine of master, isn't it?). The photo is from Thanksgiving day, and is of Ariane, Amber, and Kristie, three of my 'blogging buddies.'

    I am so glad you are here in the blogosphere as well. Since I came across Amber and Johnny & Sheena's blogs I have been wondering where yours was. So happy you are here and now I will have to start posting more often. Hopefully this baby will be here soon and I can put up pictures of him or her. Welcome!!

    dearest mother,
    you should be more specific as to which Thanksgiving that was.
    That was 2 Thanksgivings ago, when my hair was long and pretty instead of stupid ugly and short.
    also, it was the thanksgiving we had a legit kitchen instead of a construction zone. hoooraaayyyy for the kitchen almost being done! ...7 months later....

    Beautiful LADY!!

    It seems like it has been a very long time since the last occassion that I visited you up on the stand playing the organ at the Somersworth Ward. I have MANY fond memories of you, the first being when you played the piano for 'From Cumorah's Hill' 12 YEARS AGO! I've missed 'the East' and many of my memories of my years there are linked to you. I still need your recipe for apple crisp and I need to find a way to buy 'Polly'. I LOVE that musical. Tell your husband hello from me and my husband! Thank you for EVERYTHING.

It's raining this morning. Again. I shouldn't mind. My grass is green and my flowers are happy and blooming in their little garden. Out of the Darkness

New experiences come in the strangest forms, at the strangest times, in the strangest places. The following account could be considered mildly inappropriate (mostly by my mother, so you guys are all set) -- pah! Who am I kidding? Tame is a bit of a wild descriptor for my style, but this did happen in a public bathroom. There, I said it. I took a very long walk today while John was off at the airport meeting incoming students. My job was to meet one of the students at the bus station and get him to his host family's home. It was the perfect opportunity for a leisurely three mile stroll across town. I love walking, and with good shoes, I can walk practically forever. Seriously. John can't keep up with me, and he's the runner/athlete/ weight lifter/ jock. Go figure. Walking is my deal. The Days of Milk and Roses

Marie reminded me of this story, which I realized I haven't ever posted here. It is one of my favorite stories to tell on my sweet husband. It is from our years in Texas, while he was working on his PhD in Spanish Linguistics. When we arrived in Texas, we had two little boys in tow. When we left five years later, our fourth child was a month old. We lived in married student housing and lived off his graduate teaching assistantship, which came to about $700 a month. Even with adjustment for inflation, it wasn't much. And it certainly wasn't enough. We made do, though, mostly by finding fun things we could do that didn't cost anything at all. Gifts . . . well, gifts came mostly from Santa Claus (who at that time still looked an awful lot like my angel mother), or were handmade or otherwise inexpensive . . . well, no . . . free was more like it.
